From the Founder
I grew up around hospitality. Some of my earliest memories of understanding what a guest relationship actually meant were at our ski lodge — not behind a desk, but out skiing with guests, showing them the places locals knew and helping them make more of their stay.
I did not grow up thinking of that as a management philosophy. It was simply how hospitality worked: know your property, know your community, pay attention to people, and be useful.
The generations before me built these businesses through persistence, practical work, and a willingness to adapt. My own background brought a different layer — technology, systems, infrastructure, and a belief that good operators should have better information and better tools.
Butler Brand & Co. is where those ideas meet.
Built from experience. Still being built.
Our operating background spans two generations of hospitality, alongside a family history in trades and building work in the Kootenay region. That combination shapes how we work today — practical literacy around scopes, construction, and maintenance, paired with modern systems for managing properties well, remotely or on the ground. We’re a newer generation building on what came before us, not replacing it.
Care and commercial discipline belong together.
We care about employees, guests, tenants, and ownership because these businesses represent real livelihoods and real capital. Strong relationships matter, but so do budgets, maintenance, labor, revenue, and long-term asset quality. Respecting people and operating intelligently are not opposites.
Not every property needs us. Not every partnership is a fit.
Sometimes full management is the right answer. Sometimes an owner needs limited support, a specialist, or simply a second opinion — and we’ll say so. We’d rather recommend the right outcome than take on an engagement that isn’t aligned.
Properties are complicated. People make mistakes. Plans change. The standard is not pretending otherwise; it is recognizing issues, taking responsibility, adjusting quickly, and building a better system afterward.
We do not promise perfection. We promise attention, accountability and the willingness to keep improving.
